The Senate is investigating the recent killing of 16 officers and men of the 181 Amphibious Battalion in Okuama, Delta State.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio suggested that the perpetrators might be mercenaries and not from the Niger Delta or even Nigeria.

The Senate has tasked its Committee on Defence, Army, Navy, and Air force to collaborate with military authorities to gather more information.

They have called on the federal government to apprehend the culprits and increase police recruitment to avoid involving the military in civilian matters.

The Senate rejected prayers to mourn civilians’ deaths due to unknown numbers and relief materials for the community, but agreed to compensate the families of the slain soldiers.
