It was an evening of jubilant celebration and heartfelt applause as Chief H. E. Amb. Cllr Caroline Kalu (Ada Kaibeya Nma 1) marked her ascension as the new president of the Rotary Club of Lewisham and Penge, just one day after celebrating her birthday.
Held at the elegant Bromley Court Hotel, the Change Over Dinner attracted a diverse array of influential personalities from across the UK and the Diaspora community. Friends, family, and dignitaries gathered to honour and celebrate the ever-charismatic Councillor of Lewisham Borough.
The event boasted a remarkable turnout, noted as one of the largest in the club’s recent history—particularly impressive for a Monday evening. Among the esteemed guests were Chief Mourah, Chief Ngozi Nkoloenyi, Chief Lady Oby Ezeilo, former president Charles Ajuzie and his wife Rosemary, Dr. Benedicta Oga, Hon. Christian Okeke, Mr. and Mrs. Bola, Dr. Charles Onwuneme, Sir Steve Bullock, Kris Bullock, Joe Burchell, Liz Gal, Soraya Kassamally, Maryln Burchell, Ruby Austin, Himanshu Jain, Anthony and Micheala Anaka, Adrian and Shirley Friers, among others.
In his handover speech, former president Charles Ajuzie praised Councillor Caroline's extensive experience and visionary approach, highlighting her core values and leadership skills. "Councillor Caroline brings with her a wealth of experience, a visionary outlook with a deep sense of her core values," he stated. "Her leadership will usher in an era of growth, innovation, and prosperity. She has my full support and that of the entire Rotary Club."
Councillor Caroline Kalu, also a United Nations Peace Ambassador, addressed the crowd with a promise to collaborate closely with all members to achieve meaningful change and contribute to a better world. Her speech resonated with many, who applauded her dedication, ingenuity, and hard work.
