I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Irish-born actor Ray Stevenson in May 2023. His performances have left a lasting impact on many, including myself.
Ray Stevenson in RomeI first took note of Stevenson in the television series "Rome", where he starred alongside Kevin McKidd. His portrayal was compelling and memorable. He further showcased his versatility in "Kill the Irishman", delivering a powerful performance. His role in "The Other Guys" added a unique touch to the film, which remains one of my top five Hollywood comedies.
Ray with Kevin McKidd in RomeObserving his journey from his role in "Rome" to various blockbuster films, I often marveled at his achievements and the depth he brought to his characters. Discovering his passing was a profound shock, revealing to me the extent of my admiration for his work.
Recently, while watching season 6 of Vikings, I was intrigued by a character whose features—particularly the nose, jawline, and a tiny mole on the left side of his face—seemed familiar. Upon further research, I realized it was Ray Stevenson. Learning of his death shortly thereafter was a poignant moment, leading to a deep sense of loss.
I am deeply saddened.
May his soul rest in peace.
