Porsha Williams, star of The Real Housewives, has spoken out following the detention of her estranged husband, Simon Guobadia, by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Guobadia, a 60-year-old Nigerian businessman, is currently being held at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia, as reported by Us Weekly. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, his status is recorded as “in ICE custody.”

In response to the news, Williams, 43, who is in the process of divorcing Guobadia, took to Instagram to express her feelings about the situation. She described it as “disheartening,” stating, “It’s disheartening to see my estranged husband make choices that have led to this outcome. At this moment, my priority is moving forward with my family.”

Guobadia emigrated from Nigeria to the United States in 1982 and allegedly overstayed his visa. He was declared deportable in 1985, as reported by Atlanta’s WSB-TV 2. He was arrested in 1987 for bank and credit card fraud. Following two additional arrests, he was deported to Nigeria in 1992 but managed to return to the U.S. a month later.

In 2016, Guobadia applied for U.S. citizenship, but his application was denied by the government due to his previous unlawful status. He has since filed multiple complaints and appeals in an effort to be recognized as a naturalized citizen, but these attempts have been unsuccessful.

This situation arises amid President Donald Trump’s directive for large-scale deportations of undocumented immigrants, issued earlier this year. This order enables the deportation of undocumented individuals to their countries of origin.

In February 2024, Guobadia celebrated his life in America, posting on Instagram, “Happy Tuesday to all who have ever overcome and persevered in life. You are winning #42yearsLivinginAmerica.”

Williams filed for divorce from Guobadia that same month after nearly 15 months of marriage; the pair wed in November 2022. Since then, they have been engaged in an ongoing legal battle. In September, Williams achieved a legal victory when a judge ruled in her favor regarding their prenuptial agreement.

In November, court documents indicated that Williams was granted temporary sole possession of their marital residence, along with the unrestricted right to film and produce television, film, or social media content in the home.
