US President Donald Trump said Sunday he had advised the Depository to quit creating penny coins, introducing it as a work to eliminate government spending.
"For a really long time,, the US has printed pennies, which in a real sense set us back multiple pennies. This is so inefficient!" Trump said on his Reality Social stage.
"I have educated my Secretary of the US Depository to quit creating new pennies. We should tear the loss out of our extraordinary country's financial plan, regardless of whether it's a penny at once.
The supposed Division of Government Proficiency, an expense-cutting drive driven by extremely rich person Elon Musk who has helped slice bureaucratic spending, featured the expense of creating pennies in a post on X in January.
Banters about the creation cost of pennies is not new in the US, with a few bills having been presented in Congress that have neglected to pass.
Trump's structure would almost certainly require legislators' endorsement, yet Depository Secretary Scott Bessent might have the option to just stop the printing of new pennies, financial matters teacher Robert Triest of Northeastern College wrote in January.
Costs would probably be adjusted to the closest five pennies, assuming that pennies are eliminated, Triest said.
