Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has alleged that the immediate past Head of Service (HoS) of the State, Dr. George Nweke, has been compromised and is being forced to lie about him.

Fubara made this declaration in a statement he personally signed in response to allegations made by Nweke during a press conference in Abuja on Friday, March 28. He described it as laughable for the former Head of Service to claim that he was aware of Fubara's discussions and plans to support Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed's alleged 2027 presidential bid.

The suspended governor also found it ridiculous that Nweke would allege he was aware of meetings organized to plan attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in the state, insisting that no such meetings have ever taken place.

The statement reads in part:

“My attention has been drawn to a press briefing by the former Head of Service, Dr. George Nweke, aired on Channels Television on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Ordinarily, I would not have responded to his claims, but I feel it is necessary to correct the false impression such allegations may create in the minds of the public and the discontent it is bound to cause within the state and the country.

First, regarding the claim that he was aware of my discussions and plans to support Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid, it is laughable that Dr. Nweke would be involved in any high-level political meetings as Head of Service, much less in my alleged secret meetings with Bala Mohammed and militants. In reality, no such meetings ever took place.

Everyone is aware that when the Bauchi State Governor, as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, visited the state, it was a public event and not a secret.

It is also ludicrous for Dr. Nweke to claim that he knew about my meetings to encourage attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets, as I have never held any meetings with militants or criminal groups aimed at destabilizing the state.

It is on record that I have consistently advocated for peace in the state, even in the face of significant provocations.

The truth is that Dr. Nweke has been compromised, and whatever he is saying is aimed at fulfilling the demands of those who may have paid him or coerced him to lie against me.

I urge all well-meaning Nigerians and the people of Rivers State to disregard everything said by Dr. Nweke, as these are merely desperate attempts to discredit me and my administration, and to undermine the peace process initiated by Mr. President.”
