A political observer has sparked discussions online with claims that former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, sought to dominate key figures in Nigerian politics, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The man, whose statement has been circulating on social media, alleged that Wike’s influence battle extends to the current Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. According to him, Wike's ongoing rift with Fubara would not have been possible without the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Wike wanted to control Atiku, control PDP, but he feels he can control Fubara. If not for Tinubu, Wike cannot fight Sim Fubara,” the man was quoted as saying.
The political tension in Rivers State has been a subject of national debate, with Fubara asserting his independence despite Wike’s strong political network. The conflict between the two escalated in 2023, following disagreements over governance and party structure in the state.
Observers believe that President Tinubu’s influence may have emboldened Wike in his face-off with Fubara. However, some argue that the Rivers governor is gradually stepping out of Wike’s shadow, signaling a shift in the state's political dynamics.
With the ongoing developments, political analysts predict that the coming months will shape the power structure in Rivers State and possibly redefine Wike’s political stronghold.
