Bello, a respected trade and economic development expert, reportedly died as a result of alleged domestic violence. While full details surrounding her death remain unclear at the time of this report, multiple sources have confirmed the heartbreaking news.
Human rights activist and fellow Delta State government aide, Harrison Gwamnishu, confirmed her passing in a Facebook post on Monday, April 21, 2025.
Adding to the allegations, Facebook user Hon. Oge Okonkwo claimed that Shimite’s husband has been arrested in connection with her death. Her personal aide, Tameta Sunday, also publicly accused her husband of being responsible.
"It’s very difficult to type RIP boss, knowing fully well an ugly soul called pastor with a gentle look as a husband cut all the positive plans we had together," Sunday wrote.
Late Chief Bello held several significant roles throughout her distinguished career. She was the Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre and served as the focal person for the implementation of the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme in Delta State.
She was the producer and presenter of African Pot, a television documentary promoting traditional African cuisine, culture, and tourism. She also served on the Steering Committee of USAID/NEXTT (Nigerian Expanded Trade and Transport) - Lakaji Trade Corridor, and was a board member of FESECA (Foundation for Economic Change in Africa). Additionally, she contributed to prominent media outlets such as Daily Trust and Leadership as an editor on travel and tourism.
Her sudden death has sparked an outpouring of grief and renewed public discourse about domestic violence. Many online have called on women to walk away from abusive relationships before it is too late.
May her soul rest in peace.
