U.S. President Donald Trump has come under fire for allegedly violating the strict dress code during the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome.

While the Vatican’s guidelines called for male attendees to wear a dark suit, white shirt, long black tie, and black accessories including shoes, socks, coats, and umbrellas Trump stood out in a blue suit paired with a matching blue tie.

Many global leaders adhered to the traditional mourning attire, making Trump's outfit choice all the more noticeable. Critics quickly accused him of showing disrespect to the late Pontiff. Although Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Joe Biden also wore blue ties, most participants respected the all-black dress protocol.

Seated in the front row among world dignitaries and royalty, Trump’s attire sparked ridicule online and at the event itself. "Why is Trump the only male world leader wearing a blue suit? Has he no sense of decorum? Shame on him," commented Alison Graham, an observer at the funeral.

Other figures, such as Prince William who wore a dark navy suit with a black tie and President Zelensky who appeared in a black military-style outfit also faced minor criticism for not strictly adhering to the formal expectations.

In contrast, Melania Trump fully complied with the Vatican’s dress code for women. Marking her 55th birthday on the day of the funeral, she wore a modest black coat, lace veil, gloves, and a simple diamond-studded cross pendant, aligning perfectly with the requirement for women to wear modest black attire, including veils and gloves.
