Nigerian show promoter Toba Abiodun has sparked controversy after criticizing the state of Nigeria’s airports and the general environment upon his arrival in the country.
Taking to Instagram, Toba shared a video of his experience at the airport, describing it as dilapidated and comparing it to one in a war-torn country.
He further complained about being constantly approached by people trying to “hustle” him and claimed that everyone in Nigeria has body odour.
Toba’s Statement
In his post, he wrote:
“The body odour is extra. We need to know who is in charge of the Nigerian airport so we can drag him to go view other country airports in Africa. Forget Europe—that's reaching too high… The Nigeria airport is like a war-torn country's airport—carousel broken, no WiFi, no light, plenty body odour, and everyone is trying to hustle you.
"It's so sad there's so much wealth and poverty in the same place. I don't understand.”
Toba’s remarks have since sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with his sentiments and others criticizing his generalization of Nigerians.

I can identify with his frustration. The body odour thing makes me look at Naija babes and look away for fear of the odour (but that's because the smell of sweat is stuck in your brain from past experience and you come to assume everyone else will ooze that off-putting odour). It is an irrational fear (phobia) even though based on past experience. The concoction of bad body odour, broken infrastructure, people distracting you and treating you like a money bag, etc makes you become irritated with everything about the country and blinds you to any positives they may be in the country. It is a real shame that we cannot fix our image.
