Nollywood actress and on-air personality, Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo 1, has shared a deeply personal and painful experience, revealing that she was raped by a male colleague in the broadcast industry six years ago.
Lolo made the disclosure during a recent episode of her podcast, Say My Piece. Although she chose not to name the individual involved, she expressed the emotional weight of the incident and the long-lasting impact it continues to have on her life.
“I hardly ever say this, and I’m not even ready to tell the full story… but I have been raped once in my life, and it was by a colleague,” she said. “I still see him every other day. Do you know how traumatized I am? When I see him, I just get into this momentary panic.”
She explained that choosing not to identify her attacker stems from a fear of public backlash, especially now that the individual holds a prominent position in the industry.
“If someone like me comes out now to name him, an established figure in the broadcast world, people would ask, ‘Why are you only saying this now? Why didn’t you speak out six years ago?’”
Lolo also opened up about the conversation she had with her daughter regarding the assault. “When I discussed it with my daughter yesterday, she held my hand and said, ‘Mummy, you’ve gone through so much.’ And I said, ‘I have.’”
She highlighted how many women respond to sexual assault with denial, shame, or silence—often blaming themselves rather than speaking out.
Her revelation has sparked fresh conversations about the stigma surrounding sexual violence, especially within professional circles, and the emotional toll survivors continue to endure in silence.
