Afrobeats star Peter Okoye, widely known as Mr P, has stirred up conversations online after attributing the breakup of the iconic music duo Psquare to fans.
Speaking during his appearance at comedian AY’s recent event, Peter claimed that constant comparisons and favoritism from fans created unnecessary friction between him and his twin brother, Paul Okoye (aka Rudeboy). According to him, the public’s tendency to pit them against each other eventually contributed to ego clashes and the group’s split.
In his words:
“Fans are the reason Psquare is no longer together today. Two brothers doing the same thing, and people kept saying one was better than the other. It got into one person’s head, and he started misbehaving. If you like, go home—I don’t care.”
Psquare, formed in 1997, rose to prominence with hit songs like “Bizzy Body,” “E No Easy,” and “Personally.” The duo earned a massive following for their energetic performances, catchy melodies, and signature dance routines.
Their eventual split, often linked to internal family disagreements, has remained one of the most talked-about moments in Nigerian pop culture. Recently, Peter made headlines again after reportedly testifying against their elder brother, Jude Okoye, in a case involving an alleged ₦1.38 billion fraud.

The clip of Peter’s comments has since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans:
@ada_bekee06: “If fans can separate two brothers, then something is definitely wrong with the brothers. What kind of talk is that?”
@ossybrown: “When your ex misses you but can’t move on. Respectfully though.”
@doctall_kingsley: “Lol… fans that weren’t even there when you started? Bro, are you joking or serious?”
@araoluwa: “Nah Peter, don’t do that. You both need to be accountable for the choices you made.”
@it_jbe: “There’s no need to prove anything. No one said Peter can’t sing. But when it comes to vocals and delivery, Paul clearly has the edge.”
Despite the controversy, fans remain hopeful that the bond between the Okoye brothers can one day be fully restored.
