The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, also known as "Killaboi," from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria.
Nnayereugo is accused of murdering his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023.
In a statement released on Saturday, April 19, the police said the extradition was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, Qatari authorities, and other relevant agencies.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the process began following a petition from the victim’s family on September 29, 2024. The case was immediately assigned to INTERPOL NCB Abuja for investigation.
According to the police, Nnayereugo murdered Onuwabhagbe at his residence on 24A Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos, before fleeing the country. He later posted an online video that appeared to confess to the crime, which authorities say was a deceptive attempt to derail the investigation.
The statement read, “The Nigeria Police Force has successfully completed the extradition of Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, widely known as ‘Killaboi,’ from Doha, Qatar, to Nigeria.
"The fugitive, who had been on the run for the murder of Miss Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, was returned to the country in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025, through coordinated efforts involving the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL NCB, Force Headquarters Abuja, and Qatari judicial authorities.
“The extradition followed a petition filed by the deceased’s family through their legal representatives on September 29, 2024. The case was assigned to INTERPOL NCB Abuja, and investigations revealed that Nnayereugo murdered Miss Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student at Lead City University, Ibadan, at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023. After committing the crime, he fled Nigeria and later released an online video that appeared to confess to the act, a deceptive strategy designed to derail the investigation.
“Following his declaration as a wanted man by the NPF Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on October 13, 2023, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued for his global apprehension. He was initially arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on October 20, 2023, under the false identity ‘KANU PRINCETON SAMUEL,’ but escaped custody during a prison break on November 26, 2023.
“Subsequent intelligence reports showed that the suspect continued to evade law enforcement, traveling through multiple regions, including West Africa, East Asia, and the Middle East, under forged identities. He eventually relocated to Doha, Qatar, on January 24, 2025. Operating under the alias ‘TOURE ABDOULAYE’ and using a fraudulent Guinean passport, he secured illegal employment and concealed his identity.
“Through robust international cooperation and advanced biometrics, INTERPOL NCB Abuja, in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Doha, confirmed his identity. He was arrested by Qatari authorities in February 2025. An official extradition request, processed via the Federal Ministry of Justice, was approved by Qatari judicial authorities, leading to his repatriation to Nigeria.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the collaboration among nations in combating trans-border crimes and praised the diligence of INTERPOL NCB Abuja. He also extended gratitude to the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Government of Qatar, INTERPOL NCB Doha, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their invaluable support in securing the fugitive’s return.
“The IGP further assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring that Nnayereugo faces a diligent prosecution, as part of its ongoing dedication to justice and the safety of all Nigerians.”
