Political commentator and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has taken aim at Pastor Tunde Bakare following the clergyman’s recent criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Speaking during a Sunday sermon on April 20, Pastor Bakare condemned the President’s style of governance, describing it as a “motor park brand of politics.” He also accused Tinubu of reducing the National Assembly to a rubber stamp body that merely follows executive orders.

In response, Reno Omokri took to his Instagram page to discredit Bakare’s remarks, asserting that the pastor’s criticisms are rooted in bitterness and political rivalry rather than objectivity or spiritual insight.

Omokri wrote:

Tunde Bakare wanted to be President. He contested against Bola Tinubu during the APC presidential primaries on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, and was soundly defeated he scored ZERO votes. Please fact-check me.

He is not speaking as a pastor or a prophet. He is speaking as a defeated and bitter rival who is covetous of the President’s position.

You cannot expect a man who lost so resoundingly to be fair, just, or balanced in his commentary. It’s like expecting Kanye West to give Taylor Swift a glowing review after losing the Grammy for Album of the Year to her it’s not realistic.

This is the same man who once proclaimed that heaven had ordained him to become Nigeria’s sixteenth President after Buhari. Yet today, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu who holds that office. Should we really expect him to celebrate Tinubu for occupying a position he believed was divinely promised to him?

And if Tunde Bakare can lie against heaven this wouldn’t be the first time. Let’s not forget how, in 2006, he claimed the Holy Spirit told him Buhari was part of Nigeria’s decaying past, only to later run as Buhari’s running mate in 2011. If he can lie against heaven, who are you that he won’t lie to?

Omokri’s response has further stirred public debate, adding yet another layer to the ongoing discourse around the President’s leadership and his critics’ motives.
