Nigerian music star Fireboy DML, born Adedamola Adefolahan, has opened up about the emotional strain his tattoos have caused in his relationship with his father.
Speaking on a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, the 29-year-old singer revealed that his body art deeply affects his dad and may be something he never gets over.
“One thing I’ve done that probably broke my dad’s heart? I think I already did my tattoos. Whenever he comes to visit, I make sure I wear a jalabiya, fully covered. Because the tattoos, they break his heart every time he sees them,” Fireboy shared.
He noted that while his father is more accepting of his piercings, the tattoos remain a major point of disapproval.
Despite this, Fireboy stood firm in his love for tattoos, saying it's part of his identity independent of his career as an artist.
“Even if I had ended up as a banker, I would still have tattoos. It’s not about being an artist. It’s who I am. I see tattoos as art. Sometimes, I want to be shirtless and still look dressed up. I want to walk into a room in a singlet and still carry presence. That’s what tattoos do for me.”
The singer’s candidness offered fans a rare glimpse into the personal conflicts that sometimes accompany fame and self-expression.
