Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has advised President Bola Tinubu to forgo any intentions of seeking re-election in 2027.

Speaking as a guest on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme aired on Friday, April 18, Baba-Ahmed stated that President Tinubu’s political trajectory is nearing its end and that the warning signs of a potential defeat in 2027 are already apparent.

“I expect Tinubu to throw in the towel if he is truly a smart politician. And to be clear, this isn’t praise. In 2007, he stepped aside and supported Atiku. In 2015, he backed Buhari, who went on to win. He stayed back again in 2019, and then 2023 was, in my view, rigged. If he’s really that strategic, then it’s obvious: 2027 will not go his way. There are already two likely candidates, and they are Tinubu’s political nemesis,” Baba-Ahmed said.

He further criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the party as fundamentally deceptive. Baba-Ahmed argued that neither former President Muhammadu Buhari nor President Tinubu have delivered on promises of national development, anti-corruption efforts, or improved security.

“Buhari did not fight corruption, and neither will Tinubu. The APC is built on falsehoods. But looking ahead, I believe Nigerians will reject this kind of leadership. We’ll begin to embrace true democracy where accountability matters,” he said.

He concluded with a hopeful message, saying:
“As bad leadership loses its grip, Nigeria will start to heal. We will recover, unite, and finally see each other as fellow citizens brothers and sisters. Their time is up.”
