Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on former U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine, urging him to witness firsthand the devastation caused by Russia’s invasion.
In an interview with CBS on Sunday, Zelenskyy appealed directly to Trump, saying:
“Please, before any kind of decisions, any kind of forms of negotiations, come to see people civilians, warriors, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead.”
The plea comes amid reports of a deadly Russian missile attack in the northeastern city of Sumy on Sunday morning. According to local officials, at least 34 people were killed and 83 injured after two ballistic missiles struck the bustling city center as residents attended Palm Sunday services.
Analysts suggest the mounting civilian casualties could influence Trump’s approach to potential peace negotiations. Trump has previously expressed interest in engaging directly with Moscow to broker an end to the war.
Meanwhile, the Turkish defense ministry announced that military representatives from Turkey and other foreign nations will convene in Turkey on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss Black Sea security measures, particularly in the context of a potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.
