The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the election of Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.

Delivering its judgment on Thursday, May 29, the appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and his party, challenging the outcome of the September 21, 2024, governorship election.

A three-member panel of justices unanimously ruled that the appeal lacked merit, noting that the appellants failed to prove any legal or procedural errors in the earlier judgment of the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, delivered on April 2, which upheld Okpebholo’s victory.

The Court of Appeal held that the tribunal’s decision was based on sound legal reasoning and affirmed that Monday Okpebholo remains the lawfully elected governor of Edo State.
