The Federal Government has initiated criminal proceedings against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, over allegations she made during a live television interview.
In the interview, aired on Channels Television’s Politics Today on April 3, 2025, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello conspired to assassinate her.
The charges, filed on May 16, 2025, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (Case No. CR/297/25), accuse her of making imputations with the knowledge that they could harm the reputation of others, violating Section 391 of the Penal Code Law, punishable under Section 392.
Prominent figures, including Senate President Akpabio and former Governor Bello, are listed as witnesses in the case.
This legal action follows Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's six-month suspension from the Senate in March 2025, which she contends was politically motivated.
