Controversial comedian Deeone has publicly criticized Afrobeats star Davido for showing support for online activist VeryDarkMan, who was recently reported to have been arrested by security operatives.
Davido had joined other public figures in calling for VeryDarkMan’s release, but Deeone dismissed the gesture as insincere. In a video shared online, he accused the singer of using the trending issue to draw attention to his newly released album, describing Davido’s move as “fake love.”
According to Deeone, the timing of the post was strategic rather than compassionate. He also used the opportunity to reignite comparisons between Davido and fellow music heavyweights Wizkid and Burna Boy, arguing that the latter are more authentic in their public engagements.
He said:
Can you see why Wizkid and Burna Boy will always be greater than Davido in this life? This thing Davido just tweeted does it make sense? As you're tweeting 'free your guy,’ is the EFCC office online? Davido will never jump on something until it starts trending.
The comedian’s comments have since triggered intense debate on social media, with fans defending their favorites while others questioned Deeone’s motives.
Reactions online include:
@politicalcritik: “Deeone is doing the same thing he accuses Davido of. He said Davido tweeted for clout, yet Deeone jumps on every trending issue to remain relevant.”
@akiss14754780: “This Deeone, has anyone ever beaten you before? Your body’s itching, right? Keep running your mouth for now...”
@Officialsoliu: “This Deeone is fast becoming the biggest fool in the world. VDM will come out and still ignore him. He should be ashamed.”
@RICHARDESSE8: “It’s not only on social media you speak up. If Davido really claims VDM is his guy, let him do something real to help get him out.”
