United Kingdom-based Nigerian legal practitioner and philanthropist, Professor Gaskin Igbineweka, has called on Nigerians to desist from casting aspersions on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his alleged involvement in past legal issues in the United States.

In a press statement issued in Benin City, Professor Igbineweka, who also serves as President of the Nigerian Welfare Club in the UK, urged citizens to refrain from public ridicule of the President, emphasizing that, legally, any prior convictions or allegations from Tinubu’s time in the U.S. are no longer valid.

“Even if the President committed any offence in the U.S. at the time, by law, such conviction has been vitiated and his slate wiped clean,” he stated.

The elder statesman stressed that President Tinubu, as the democratically elected leader of the most populous Black nation in the world, deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of political opinions.

Professor Igbineweka added that as a patriot, he is committed to supporting any individual elected as President of Nigeria, irrespective of their political affiliation or ethnic background.

“It is our duty to respect the office of the President. I would stand behind whoever is chosen by the people, no matter their party or region,” he said.
