Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has issued an update regarding the arrest of social commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM).

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Adeyanju confirmed that VDM is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He noted that legal representatives from his firm have located VDM’s whereabouts but that the activist has declined to see anyone.

VDM DETAINED AT EFCC: Our legal team, led by the head of our firm, @Marvin_Omorogbe, met with VDM’s friend who was arrested alongside him and is also in EFCC custody. VDM refused to come out of the cell, stating that he does not wish to see anyone. He was reportedly locked inside the GTBank exit door for over five minutes to enable the EFCC to arrest him and his friend,” Adeyanju stated.

He further disclosed that legal action will be taken against GTBank over what he described as “inhumane treatment” of their client. A public statement is expected to follow shortly.
