Nigerians have taken to the streets in protest over the arrest of popular online personality, VeryDarkMan (VDM), calling for his immediate release. Demonstrators were seen holding placards and chanting slogans in solidarity, expressing outrage over the circumstances surrounding his detention.
A video of the protest, which quickly went viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), captured the moment a protester addressed the crowd, saying: “EFCC, if you’re the one that arrested VDM, free him,” as others echoed the call for justice.
According to eyewitnesses, VDM was allegedly arrested outside a GTBank branch after accompanying his mother to report an unauthorized transaction on her account. He was reportedly picked up moments after exiting the bank, though the specific agency responsible for the arrest has yet to be confirmed.
The news of his detention sparked an outpouring of support online and offline, with many calling for transparency and due process. Social media users, using the hashtag #FreeVDM, have continued to voice their concerns and demand his safe release.
See some reactions below:
@iluv_Velvet25: “Good move, but ever since the last protest that led to loss of lives, I don’t like it again. Naija too get mind to do wicked things. Abeg.”
@amaechi_josh: “Why are Nigerians scared to speak up? They only instill fear in us. Change doesn’t just come it must be triggered!”
@Washing1M: “I hope baba is seeing all of this. Tell your officials @officialABAT to shut down GTB and stop EFCC. We need a different agency not EFCC or police. They’re all a mess.”
@AmBlackweezy: “This one is small. On Monday, we mount Abuja. Get ready we’re taking over the EFCC streets. They must release him in good health.”
@CrichzC: “This is the best thing I’ve seen in a while. Three voices make a crowd.”
