The Oyo State Government has approved the sum of ₦4.5 billion as financial support for victims and survivors of the Bodija explosion, which occurred on January 16, 2024.

The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, May 14, at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed that the newly approved funds are in addition to over ₦200 million already spent by the state government on accommodation, feeding, medical care, and security in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.

Oyelade further revealed that the council ratified a recommendation from a 10-man committee to revoke the title of two properties situated off Adeyi Avenue, identified as the epicentre of the explosion. He added that the government plans to construct a monument on the revoked land to honour the victims of the disaster.

He emphasized that the decision was made in the public interest and is part of broader efforts to bring healing and closure to the affected communities.
