In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Adeyanju stated that the most realistic position Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, can aspire to is serving as running mate to Atiku Abubakar, should the former vice president contest again.
According to Adeyanju, only a politician from Nigeria’s northern region has the political reach and structure needed to mount a serious challenge against incumbent President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“The best Peter Obi can get on the ballot is to be Atiku’s VP if Atiku runs again. Only a northern candidate has the capacity to challenge Tinubu in 2027,” he wrote.
Anticipating backlash from Obi's supporters popularly known as the Obidient movement, Adeyanju also took a subtle jab at them, noting their tendency to respond aggressively to opinions that don’t favor their candidate.
“Obidients will insult me as usual, but deep down they know this is the truth,” he added.
Adeyanju’s remarks have already begun generating buzz online, sparking renewed debates about coalition strategies, zoning, and the evolving alliances that could shape the 2027 presidential race.
