The killings in Benue, across North Central Nigeria, and other vulnerable communities continues. It is brutal, relentless, and horrifying. Armed herders have turned villages into graveyards. Families are being wiped out. And yet, the silence from Nigeria’s duty bearers is deafening.
It is deeply troubling that despite the mounting death toll, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has failed to take decisive action to stem the tide of bloodshed. His continued inaction signals indifference to the suffering of the very citizens he swore to protect. At this point, he must take responsibility and resign.
Even more disturbing is the performance of the nation’s security leadership. The service chiefs have been unable to secure lives and properties. In fact, the recent visit of the Army Chief to Benue appears to have worsened the situation, rather than improved it. This cannot continue. They must do the honourable thing and step aside.
The situation in Benue is beyond crisis. It is a full-blown war on a people. Governor Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia must now urgently push for the creation of a State Police, a local force with the understanding, proximity, and will to defend our people where the federal structure has failed.
Let the world hear this clearly:
Benue is under siege.
And we will not be silent while our people are being erased.
This is no longer about politics, it is about survival.
We must resist every attempt to wipe our people off the face of the earth.
History will judge us all, those who spoke, and those who stood by and did nothing.
Enough is enough.
The killings must stop.
The silence must end.
