The once-friendly relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump appears to have soured, with both men now trading public insults and accusations.

In a post shared on Thursday night, June 5, via X (formerly Twitter), Musk claimed that former President Trump is referenced in sealed documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

"@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public," Musk wrote, signing off pointedly with, “Have a nice day, DJT!”

Musk’s claim references unreleased documents from the U.S. Department of Justice involving Epstein, who was accused of trafficking underage girls to powerful and influential individuals.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO was, until recently, a key figure in Trump’s administration, heading the controversial Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a newly created agency tasked with reducing government bureaucracy. During his brief tenure, DOGE oversaw the elimination of thousands of federal jobs, sparking widespread criticism.

Musk stepped down from the role last week and has since become increasingly critical of Trump’s policies. He recently described Trump’s tax-cut and spending bill as a “disgusting abomination.”

Trump responded via Truth Social on Thursday evening, claiming he had asked Musk to leave the administration. He accused Musk of becoming erratic and said his behavior was “wearing thin.”

“Elon was going CRAZY! I had no choice but to ask him to step down,” Trump wrote.

The public rift marks a dramatic shift in the relationship between the two billionaires, who once publicly praised one another and shared aligned views on deregulation and government downsizing.

As of now, the Department of Justice has not commented on Musk’s claims regarding the Epstein files.
