Nearly two weeks ago, Trump referred to Khamenei as an “easy target,” telling reporters, “We are not going to take him out at least not for now.”
In response, prominent Iranian cleric Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi issued a religious decree without naming Trump directly. According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Shirazi was asked by a follower about Trump’s remarks. He ruled that any individual or regime threatening an Islamic government or its religious leaders is considered a Mohareb an “enemy of God” under Islamic law a crime punishable by death.
Shirazi further stated that it is the duty of Muslims to hold such “enemies” accountable, describing those who act against them as holy warriors who are assured of divine reward.
While the cleric’s remarks did not mention Trump by name, the context and timing suggest a clear warning directed at the U.S. president.
