Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama was recently photographed enjoying a relaxed lunch with longtime friends during a luxurious vacation in Spain notably without her husband, former President Barack Obama.
According to Daily Mail, the 61-year-old was seen dining at The Lobster Club in Puerto Portals alongside James Costos, 62, the former U.S. ambassador to Spain, and his partner, Michael Smith, 62, the Obamas’ longtime interior designer and former White House decorator.
Michelle was also joined by her daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 24, during the outing. While Barack Obama was not present, the family has shared a long-standing friendship with Costos and Smith, who have previously hosted them at their Rancho Mirage home in Palm Springs, California.
In a 2017 interview with Architectural Digest, Michael Smith reflected on those moments, saying, "The President and Mrs. Obama basically woke up in the morning to the same view of the valley [as JFK once did at Bing Crosby's home]. There was something lovely about that thought."
The recent outing comes amid unconfirmed public speculation about the Obamas’ marriage — rumors Michelle addressed directly during a May episode of The Diary of a CEO podcast.
"If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it," she said, shutting down the speculation.
