The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, has found suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt of court.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, July 3, the court held that the lawmaker representing Kogi Central violated its order by posting a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on her social media platforms. The court ruled that the post mocked a gag order previously placed on the parties involved.
As a result, the court ordered Akpoti-Uduaghan to:
-
Publish a formal apology in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page within seven days.
-
Pay a N5 million fine for her contempt, which the judge noted occurred in a civil proceeding.
Although the contempt action was initiated by Senator Akpabio, the court declined to grant any additional reliefs in his favour.
