Lawyer and human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has called on Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), to join a united opposition coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle this morning, Adeyanju appealed directly to Sowore, writing:
"Dear Egbon @YeleSowore,
I know you are different unlike the typical thieving Nigerian politician—but I urge you to please consider joining the coalition, sir. Forget what people may say about your long-standing principles and ideological values. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures."
"You will earn the lasting respect and admiration of many Nigerians if you make this painful sacrifice. Politics is different from activism and morality—it’s a game of numbers."
"Even in churches, there are witches and wizards. Everyone already knows you are principled and uncompromising. You have nothing to prove to critics who will never like you anyway, simply because of their loyalty to other candidates. Just think about it, sir—consider the coalition."
"Respect and love always, even if you choose not to join."
Adeyanju's appeal is one of several recent calls urging opposition figures to unite in order to mount a formidable challenge against the APC ahead of the next general elections.
