Vehicular movement at the Admiralty-Lekki Toll Gate was temporarily restricted on Saturday as police enforced movement control in line with the ongoing local government elections across Lagos State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the restriction was part of security measures put in place for the elections holding in the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

Police officers were stationed at the toll gate, turning back vehicles and ensuring compliance with the directive. Only essential personnel including INEC officials, accredited election observers, ambulances, firefighters, and security operatives on election duty were permitted to pass through.

Despite the restriction, some residents seized the opportunity to enjoy the rare car-free environment. With roads cleared of traffic, the streets quickly transformed into informal recreational spaces, as joggers and cyclists took advantage of the quiet morning.

One jogger, who spoke to NAN on the condition of anonymity, expressed delight at the peaceful atmosphere and enhanced safety.

“I’m really enjoying the opportunity to exercise without traffic. The police presence also makes me feel more secure,” he said.

Although he admitted he didn’t vote due to uncertainty about the candidates, he expressed hope for a peaceful and credible electoral process.

“I didn’t vote because I wasn’t sure who to vote for. But I hope the elections are free, fair, and without violence,” he added.
