President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Adeniyi, whose tenure was initially set to end on August 31, 2025, will now remain in office for an additional year to consolidate key reforms and strategic initiatives within the Customs Service.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the extension is aimed at providing continuity for the modernization of the Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s compliance with its obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement read.

“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its core mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and enhanced border security.”

Mr. Adeniyi, who assumed the role of Comptroller-General in June 2023, has been credited with spearheading key operational and structural reforms within the agency, including improved transparency and digitalization of customs processes.
