Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has stated that the country’s history would have been incomplete and less rich had he failed in the 2023 presidential election.
Tinubu made this remark on Sunday, July 20, during the 8th-day Fidau prayers held in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
The revered monarch, who passed away at the age of 91, was one of Nigeria’s longest-serving traditional rulers, having ascended the throne on April 2, 1960. His death occurred just hours after the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, with whom he shared a deep friendship dating back to the 1980s.
During his address at the prayer gathering, President Tinubu revealed that the late Awujale had been a strong source of encouragement in his political journey, urging him to contest the 2023 presidential election and assuring him of victory.
“Our history would not have been completed carefully and richly if I had failed in the last election,” Tinubu said.“I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale,” he added.
