The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles, declaring that any change in Nigeria’s leadership will come through the ballot box, not through force.

The party made this clear while dismissing allegations that it is plotting to undermine Nigeria’s democracy. The ADC accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of attempting to silence opposition voices by creating false narratives.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, issued the statement in response to claims by Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who alleged that opposition parties were conspiring to overthrow the government.

Describing Onanuga’s remarks as “reckless and baseless,” Abdullahi stressed that the ADC has no intention of destabilizing the country and remains fully committed to upholding democratic values.

“We condemn the tweet by President Tinubu’s aide, Bayo Onanuga, alleging that the opposition plans to overthrow the government before 2027. Such statements only serve to create an excuse for clamping down on opposition leaders,” Abdullahi said.

“The ADC is not in the business of truncating democracy. We are determined to rescue the country from the incompetence of this administration. We don’t have bullets; we only have the ballots. When the time comes, we will present our solutions and a clear alternative to Nigerians—and let the people decide.”
