U.S. First Lady Melania Trump is threatening to sue Hunter Biden for $1 billion over claims that she was introduced to former President Donald Trump by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein allegations her legal team calls “false, defamatory, and inflammatory.”

In a letter dated August 6 to Biden and his lawyer Abbe Lowell, Melania’s attorney Alejandro Brito demanded an immediate retraction and apology. The letter warned that if Biden did not comply by August 7, the First Lady would pursue legal action for damages exceeding $1 billion.

The controversy stems from remarks Biden made during an August 5 appearance on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan, in which he repeated claims first made by Fire and Fury author Michael Wolff. Wolff had told a Daily Beast podcast in late July that Epstein and Trump were connected through a “model agent” who introduced Trump to Melania. The Daily Beast has since retracted the story and issued an apology.

“Given your vast history of trading on the names of others for personal benefit, it is obvious you published these false and defamatory statements about Mrs. Trump to draw attention to yourself,” Brito wrote.

Melania’s legal team says Biden’s comments have been “widely disseminated” online, republished by multiple outlets and influencers, and caused “overwhelming financial and reputational harm.”

East Wing spokesperson Nick Clemens confirmed that Melania’s lawyers are actively pursuing retractions and apologies from those spreading the allegations, adding:

“The true account of how the First Lady met President Trump is in her best-selling book Melania.”

As of Wednesday night, the Channel 5 episode featuring Biden’s remarks remained available on YouTube.
