Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday that there is “no meeting planned” between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, despite efforts by Washington to broker a summit.

“There is no meeting planned,” Lavrov stated in an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press with Kristen Welker.

US President Donald Trump had raised hopes for a swift summit, suggesting that both leaders had agreed to meet following Zelensky’s visit to the White House alongside European allies.

Lavrov, however, maintained that Putin was “ready to meet Zelensky when the agenda would be ready for a summit,” but insisted it was “not ready at all.”

Earlier this week, he dismissed the White House meeting as a “clumsy” attempt by Europeans to sway Trump from the position he agreed with Putin at a summit in Alaska.

On Friday, Lavrov further dampened expectations, questioning Zelensky’s legitimacy and reiterating Russia’s hardline stance. “There are several principles which Washington believes must be accepted, including no NATO membership and the discussion of territorial issues and Zelensky said no to everything,” he said.
