President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Brasília, Brazil, for a state visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Latin America’s largest economy.
On arrival, he was received by Carlos Duarte, Brazil’s Secretary for Africa and the Middle East; Carlos José Moreno Garcete, Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria; and senior Nigerian officials, including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
At his hotel, the President was welcomed by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State; as well as several cabinet members, including Ministers Wale Edun (Finance), Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (Defence), Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Trade and Investment), Mohammed Idris (Information), Idi Maiha (Livestock Development), and Uche Nnaji (Innovation, Science and Technology).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Tinubu will meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Planalto Palace on Monday, where both leaders are expected to witness the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and address a joint press conference.
The President will also hold separate meetings with the heads of Brazil’s Senate, Chamber of Deputies, and Supreme Federal Court, and participate in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum.
Discussions will focus on expanding cooperation in aviation, agribusiness, livestock, security, trade, energy transition, and cultural exchange.
A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), paving the way for direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil.
Breakout sessions and sideline meetings involving Nigerian ministries are also scheduled to complement the high-level talks.
