The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 55-year-old Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon”, a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on Lagos Island, over allegations of murder and assault occasioning harm.

The suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, where police say a discreet investigation is ongoing.

Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement yesterday, said the suspect was first linked to a violent attack on September 17, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m. when he allegedly assaulted a dispatch rider with a helmet and his fists, leaving the victim critically injured and hospitalized on oxygen.

Barely 24 hours later, another complaint surfaced connecting Oladiti to an August 28, 2025 incident, in which he allegedly struck a man multiple times with a metallic ring during a heated altercation. The victim later died on September 17 despite medical intervention. His body has since been deposited for autopsy.

The victim’s death sparked outrage as sympathizers stormed Oladiti’s office at Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, setting two of his motorcycles ablaze and causing unrest.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led mobile policemen, conventional officers, and tactical squads to the scene, restoring calm and preventing further breakdown of law and order.

“The suspect is in custody and will be promptly prosecuted after investigations are concluded,” Adebisi assured.
