Prince Harry paid an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Friday to meet Ukrainian soldiers wounded in the war with Russia.

The Duke of Sussex arrived in the capital on an overnight train and was photographed stepping off a luxury carriage before being welcomed on the platform. His trip coincided with the first official overseas visit of Britain’s new foreign minister, Yvette Cooper.

Harry travelled with his Invictus Games Foundation, which supports the rehabilitation of wounded servicemen. “We cannot stop the war, but what we can do is everything we can to help the recovery process,” he told the newspaper.

During the trip, he was expected to meet Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and around 200 Ukrainian veterans.

The visit comes days after Harry, who turns 41 on Monday, reunited briefly with his father, King Charles III, in Britain — their first meeting in nearly two years. The prince has remained largely estranged from the royal family since stepping back from royal duties and relocating to California with his wife Meghan in 2020.
