According to reports, the violence erupted after an attack that killed two Israeli soldiers, prompting a wave of retaliatory Israeli airstrikes that left 26 people dead in Gaza.
An Israeli security source confirmed that aid shipments into the enclave will resume on Monday, after intense U.S. pressure. The flow of supplies had earlier been halted, with Israel accusing Hamas of a “blatant” violation of the truce.
The Israeli airstrikes reportedly hit Hamas targets across Gaza, including field commanders, tunnels, and weapons depots. At least one strike is said to have hit a former school sheltering displaced people in the Nuseirat area. Local health officials confirmed that among the 26 killed were a woman and a child.
In response, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had ordered the military to respond forcefully to Hamas’ violations. Hamas’ armed wing, however, insisted that it remains committed to the ceasefire and was unaware of the reported clashes in Rafah.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner are expected to arrive in Israel on Monday to help sustain the fragile truce.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Israel’s “yellow line” demarcation zone would be strictly enforced, warning that any attempt to cross it would be met with fire. Hamas, on its part, accused Israel of multiple violations that have allegedly caused 46 Palestinian deaths and disrupted essential aid supplies.
A key sticking point remains the return of bodies of deceased Israeli hostages. Israel accuses Hamas of delaying the process, while Hamas says specialized equipment is needed to retrieve remains trapped under rubble.
The Rafah border crossing will remain closed for now, pending Hamas’ compliance with the ceasefire terms. Though another crossing has seen increased aid flow, the United Nations maintains that far more assistance is required to address the deepening hunger crisis affecting hundreds of thousands in Gaza.
Analysts warn that significant obstacles still stand in the way of lasting peace, including unresolved issues around Hamas’ disarmament, Gaza’s future governance, the formation of an international stabilization force, and renewed talks toward the creation of a Palestinian state.
