Andrew Garcia, 29, lodged the suit in Los Angeles County, alleging that James’s teaser led him to believe the basketball legend was about to retire.
Earlier this week, James sparked a frenzy after posting a cryptic video teasing “The Second Decision” a clear reference to his iconic 2010 announcement about leaving Cleveland for Miami. The dramatic teaser convinced many fans that the 40-year-old was preparing to announce his retirement ahead of his 23rd NBA season.
However, the much-hyped reveal turned out to be an advertisement for James’s new collaboration with Hennessy, following a creative partnership he signed with the brand last year.
According to TMZ, Garcia claims he spent $865.66 in total after rushing to Ticketmaster to secure two seats (each worth $432.83) for what he believed would be LeBron’s final matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, scheduled for March 31, 2026.
“I wouldn’t have purchased it if he wasn’t going to retire. Plain and simple,” Garcia told TMZ.
The lawsuit accuses James of fraud, deception, and misrepresentation, demanding compensation for the “emotional and financial harm” caused.
LeBron, who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026 season—when he turns 41—has yet to comment on the lawsuit. Many fans still speculate that the upcoming season could mark the final chapter of his storied career.
