The 55-year-old rapper and music mogul is currently serving a 50-month sentence for two counts of transportation for the purposes of prostitution after being acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
According to TMZ, a senior White House official revealed that Trump is “vacillating” on the decision, with some staff members advising against it. However, the source added that “Trump will do what he wants.”
Diddy has served 13 months of his sentence for violating the Mann Act and could be released in about two years with credit. However, a presidential commutation would immediately nullify the remainder of his prison term.
Reports suggest that after Diddy’s sentencing earlier this month, his legal team reached out to a senior White House official close to Trump to discuss the possibility of a commutation or pardon.
Days later, Trump confirmed publicly that he was aware of the request.
“I have had a lot of people ask me for pardons,” Trump said on October 6. “I call him Puff Daddy — he has asked me for a pardon.”
The development comes just days after Trump commuted the sentence of former Congressman George Santos, who had been serving 87 months for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
