Reality TV star and media personality Mercy Eke has opened up about her views on motherhood, stating that she is fully prepared to have children even if marriage doesn’t come first.
Speaking during a recent interview, Mercy explained that she has reached a point in her life where she feels emotionally and financially ready to raise children on her own terms.
In her words:
She added that she hopes to have three children — two girls and one boy, and stated clearly that even if marriage never happens, she isn’t willing to sacrifice motherhood.
According to her, the stigma around single motherhood mostly affects people who are financially unstable.
“The stigma of having kids without a father only applies to people who don’t have things going well for them,” she said.
On her love life, Mercy noted that marriage is not off the table, but she hasn’t met the man she truly wants. She insisted that if she wanted to get married immediately, she could — but she refuses to settle.
The former BBNaija winner also mentioned that while some men who approach her are more interested in a soft lifestyle, she believes that even after having a child, she would still meet the right partner.
Mercy’s comments have since sparked a wave of conversations online about independence, societal expectations, and modern motherhood.

The truth is, no matter how independent you are as a lady, this world is and remains a man's world. Why are you not able to find a man that wants to marry you is because, there are qualities and behaviour you need to posses before a man in his right mind will want to keep you as a wife. It has nothing to do with independence which you say you are but still can not find that man. Until we stop copying this western independence nonsense we see from the west, this is what you will get. Hide as much as you want to, you are now desperate. Tell me, which woman with African background does not want to have a man, a house and children, we are built for that but so called independence, has meant you think you can do away with the man and still have it your way. Keep dreaming and Suffering in silence. Get it!! It is a man's world simple as that and you think you can do away with him?? Dreamer!!
