A 33-year-old Nigerian man, Uchenna Okirie, has been st@bbed to d3ath by a Congolese national in the United Kingdom.

Uchenna, fondly known as Uche, was found with a fatal knife wound at Somerleyton House on Somerleyton Street, Norwich, in the early hours of Saturday, November 22, 2025. The building houses both students and young professionals.

Police were called to the scene at about 5am, and when emergency responders arrived, they found Uche with a st@b wound to the chest. Medics fought to save his life, but he sadly passed away despite their efforts.

Uche, a former postgraduate student at the University of East Anglia, had recently contributed to academic research, publishing a paper on how climate change affects health outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. According to his social media posts, he also volunteered with the British Red Cross.

Norfolk Police confirmed that his family in Nigeria has been informed of his passing.

The suspect, Benjamin Katabana, 27, of Somerleyton Street, Norwich, has been charged with m*rd3r. He appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday, November 25, where a post-mortem examination confirmed that Uche died from a single st@b wound to the chest.

Katabana has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear again at Norwich Crown Court on January 30 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
