Sundays are usually for church, rest, and maybe a cheeky nap afterwards… but this Sunday? This Sunday had other plans for me, and honestly, I’m so glad it did.
My dear friend, DJ Mind the Gap, has been inviting me to his AfroFit workout sessions for months, ever since his super-successful summer class in 2024. But life has been life-ing, and I’ve had way too much on my plate to squeeze in even the thought of a workout. This weekend, though, I decided it was finally time. So straight after church, I laced up, showed up, and let me tell you, it was worth it.
Now, this is me being completely honest: I haven’t done cardio in years. Like, actual years. So when the music kicked in and we started moving, I gave it my best… and lasted a whole 10 minutes before my lungs politely told me, “Girl, that’s enough.” 😂
But if there’s one thing about DJ Mind the Gap, it’s that his energy is contagious. This man is prolific, versatile and absolutely dogged in everything he does. He DJs, he MCs, he drums, he dances, and now fitness? Yes please. Healthy living and keeping fit are the new luxury lifestyle, aren’t they?
After a little breather (okay, maybe a long minute), I jumped back in. And oh my goodness, AfroFit is intense! Intense but fun, engaging, energising and surprisingly empowering. The ladies,, all new faces to me, were so sweet, so warm and so encouraging that it felt like I’d walked straight into a sisterhood I didn’t even know I needed.
Just when I thought we were done, DJ Mind the Gap surprised us with a game. Your girl almost won it too… almost. I was too fast for my own good, but trust me, next time? I’m coming for that crown. 😉
And speaking of next time, mark your calendars. The next AfroFit session is on December 14th, and I’m definitely making it a date. A great workout, beautiful souls, infectious music, and even some cute after-session snacks? What’s not to love?
Massive kudos to DJ Mind the Gap for creating such a vibrant, positive space. Ladies and gents, listen, if you haven’t joined his sessions yet, now is the time. They’re still free (emphasis on still!), but trust me, you will soon be fighting for tickets or refreshing the page to grab a slot. It’s that good.
Stay tuned here, I’ll be updating you on all things AfroFit with DJ Mind the Gap. This movement is growing fast, and you’ll want to be part of it. Xoxoxo
