U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to distribute a $2,000 “tariff dividend” to every American citizen, excluding high-income earners.

In a post shared on his Truth Social account, Trump revealed that the money will come from what he described as “trillions of dollars” in U.S. tariff revenue. He added that part of the funds would also be used to pay down America’s “enormous $37 trillion national debt.”

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!” Trump wrote. “We are now the richest, most respected country in the world, with almost no inflation and a record stock market price. 401(k)s are at their highest ever. A dividend of at least $2,000 per person (not including high-income people) will be paid to everyone.”

Trump also praised what he called a strong economic rebound, citing record investments, booming factories, and increased manufacturing activity across the country.

Shortly after his announcement, the president made a series of follow-up posts criticizing the U.S. Supreme Court for its stance on his tariff policies.

“So, let’s get this straight?” he wrote. “The President of the United States is allowed to stop all trade with a foreign country, but is not allowed to put a simple tariff on one, even for national security purposes? That’s ridiculous!”

Trump argued that tariffs were key to America’s current economic growth and global dominance, saying, “Businesses are pouring into the USA only because of tariffs.”

His statement has sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters praising the move as a bold economic strategy and critics calling it a populist campaign tactic ahead of the upcoming elections.
