Kechi Okwuchi, one of only two survivors of the tragic Sosoliso Airlines crash of December 10, 2005, has shared an emotional message as she reflects on the 20th anniversary of the disaster that claimed 107 lives out of the 109 on board.

In a video posted on her X account, the 36-year-old paid tribute to the victims and revisited the painful memories of that day. She recalled being just 16 at the time and holding her close friend’s hand in the final moments before the plane went down.

Kechi also spoke about her healing journey and the rare gift of survival:

“Twenty years have passed, and some of my memories are no longer only painful. I’ve had so many amazing experiences because I was given a second chance at life — a chance so many on that plane didn’t get.”

She reflected on the long, difficult road to recovery after sustaining severe burns, noting that the physical and emotional healing took years.

Despite the tragedy, Kechi rebuilt her life with remarkable strength. She earned global admiration after competing on America’s Got Talent, where she captured hearts with her voice and story. She went on to graduate with a first-class degree in Economics from the University of St. Thomas (Houston) and later earned an MBA with distinction.
