Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has officially defected to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi announced his decision in Enugu on Wednesday, December 31, saying the move is part of a broader plan ahead of the 2027 general elections to reposition the country.

The former Anambra State governor said his decision was driven by a commitment to national transformation and what he described as a rescue mission for Nigeria.

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi said.

He also vowed that the opposition would resist electoral malpractice in the next election cycle. “We will resist rigging of the election by every lawful means in 2027,” he added.

Obi further called on opposition leaders across the country to unite under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark, urging them to work together as one family towards rescuing Nigeria.
