Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed how his collaboration with fellow singer Omah Lay came about, explaining that it started after the Soso crooner publicly admitted he once thought Davido disliked him.

Omah Lay had earlier said he believed Davido “hated” him until the DMW boss played his songs during a livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos last year.

In a video currently circulating online, Davido shared that he reached out to Omah Lay after seeing his tweet, a move that eventually led to their collaboration on With You.

“How Omah Lay and I got together was when Kai Cenat came to Nigeria. I was driving him to the club and Omah Lay’s song came on, and Kai was like, ‘Who is this?’” Davido said.

“I told him, ‘Oh, this is Omah Lay — he’s hot.’ The next day, Omah Lay tweeted, ‘Wow! Davido gave me a shoutout on a livestream, I thought he hated me.’ So I DMed him and asked, ‘Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.’”

Davido explained that the conversation led to them exchanging contact details and working together in the studio.

“We exchanged numbers and started going back and forth with music. We did about four songs, and he chose With You as the one we would release,” he said.

With You is one of the standout tracks on Davido’s fifth studio album, 5ive. The song has also gained international recognition, earning a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
